What to Expect from Counselling?
Starting counselling can feel like a big step. You might be unsure what it will be like, what you’ll be asked, or even whether it is the right time. These feelings are completely normal.
My aim is to make the process of starting therapy feel as comfortable, safe, and supportive as possible.
Your first counselling session
Your first appointment is a chance for us to gently get to know each other. There is no pressure to share everything all at once.
We might explore:
- What has brought you to counselling now
- How you have been feeling recently
- Any challenges or patterns you are noticing
- What you might hope to get from therapy
You are always in control of what you share and what pace we go. Some people come with a clear idea of what they want to work on, while others just know something doesn’t feel right- both are completely okay.
Ongoing counselling sessions
Counselling is not about being judged or told what to do. Instead it is a collaborative process where we work together to understand your experiences and support meaningful change.
In our sessions, you can expect:
- A safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space
- Time to talk openly about your thoughts and feelings
- Support in understanding patterns, emotions, and behaviours
- Gentle guidance to help you gain clarity and perspective
- Practical tools where helpful
My approach
My approach to counselling is humanistic and integrative, grounded in creating a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood.
Being humanistic means I see you as the expert in your own life. I focus on understanding your unique experience and supporting you to reconnect with your own inner resources and sense of self.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches to suit your needs, including psychodynamic therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), attachment-based work, mindfulness, and family systems approaches. This allows our work to be flexible, responsive, and tailored to you.
How I work
I work in a way that is:
-
Person-centred – you set the pace and focus of our work
-
Compassionate and non-judgmental – all parts of your experience are welcome
-
Collaborative – we work together to make sense of what’s going on for you
-
Integrative and flexible – drawing on different therapeutic models where helpful
-
Gently goal-oriented – supporting both insight and meaningful change
Some sessions may feel more reflective and exploratory, while others may include practical tools or strategies, depending on what you need.
I have particular experience of supporting clients with:
- Anxiety and overwhelm
- Depression
- Grief, loss and bereavement
- Assault and abuse
- Trauma
- ADHD
- Autism
- Relationship difficulties
- Pregnancy, post natal and reproductive experiences
- LGBTQI+ related experiences and identity
Fees
I aim to make counselling as accessible and inclusive as possible.
My standard fee for a counselling session is 80 euro.
A limited number of reduced- fee spaces are available. If cost feels like a barrier to you, you are welcome to get in touch. We can agree a fee that feels manageable- these conversations are approached with openness and respect.
Each session lasts for 50 minutes, which is a standard counselling hour. This gives time for us to deal with any further issues if they arise and it also allows other clients to be seen on time.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions, or need any further information.
